How can I take a good up close pic with a digital camera?

I want to take a very up close pic of my eyes so you can really see my iris but I’m not sure how to do it. I have a brand new Canon Power Shot with zoom. Any tips on taking it so it’s not blurry? Thanks!

Along with using the Macro setting, get in some GOOD light. You are not going to be able to do this indoors under normal home light. It is not bright enough and the color will be incorrect. Get outdoors where there is good light on you. You are going to have the camera really close to your eye, so it is somewhat difficult to also get good lighting in there, but you can. Be sure the flash is OFF on the camera. You can also hold a hand held mirror with your other hand to be able to see the monitor on the rear of the camera. The image will be backwards in the mirror of course, but that is not important, you are only using it for good composition.
